Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Platform Engineering to join the leadership team at our client. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this role will be pivotal in driving the technical strategy and execution of the platform infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Software Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), infrastructure management, solutions architecture, and scaling. You will be responsible for building and maintaining a robust, secure, and scalable multi-tenant platform that powers their global B2B SaaS solution. This is a hands-on role requiring both strategic vision and the ability to dive deep into technical challenges.
Responsibilities

Lead and Manage Platform Engineering Initiatives
- Define and execute the technical roadmap for platform infrastructure, observability, and developer experience
- Drive DevOps, SRE, and infrastructure initiatives to ensure platform reliability and performance
- Foster a culture of automation, observability, and continuous improvement

Architect and Implement Scalable Solutions
- Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions
- Establish architectural guidelines and best practices for the platform
- Ensure optimal performance and scalability across all regions

Own Platform Reliability and Operations
- Define and maintain SLOs/SLIs/SLAs for critical platform services
- Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions
- Design and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans
- Lead incident response and post-mortem processes

Optimize Platform Performance and Costs
- Implement strategies to optimize infrastructure costs without compromising quality
- Monitor and improve platform performance metrics
- Resolve technical debt and refactor legacy systems for improved maintainability and performance

Ensure Security and Compliance
- Implement security best practices and maintain a strong security posture
- Ensure compliance with SOC 2 and other relevant standards
- Lead security audits and remediation efforts

Enable Developer Productivity
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to align platform architecture with business goals
- Build and maintain efficient CI/CD pipelines
- Improve developer experience through tooling and automation
- Establish infrastructure as code practices
- Create and maintain technical documentation

Hands-On Technical Leadership
- Actively solve complex technical issues
- Contribute to codebases as needed to drive projects forward
Requirements

Technical Expertise
- Proven experience managing Kubernetes clusters and expertise in container orchestration
- Expertise with observability tools (e.g., DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
- Database optimization and multi-tenant architecture experience
- Extensive knowledge of AWS services, including EKS, Lambda, EC2, S3, RDS, Glue, Redshift, and ElastiCache
- Strong experience with GitOps workflows and tools, particularly ArgoCD
- Expertise in CI/CD pipelines and automation
- Solid software engineering background with proficiency in Python (backend)
- Knowledge of modern JS frameworks (Vue.js, Angular.js, React.js) is a plus
- Strong focus on security practices and implementations

- At least 7+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure management, or related fields
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to drive velocity
- Proven ability to balance technical debt with feature development
