An exciting new opportunity has opened up for a seasoned HR professional.  Our client is a European company with an established portfolio of products in advanced materials. With a global business size of approximately EUR1 Billion, their products are sold in more than 100 countries worldwide, serving customers in Energy, Mining, Steel, Paper and Transportation. They are seeking a suitable candidate to fill the Human Resource Director position, based in Shanghai.

  • Job Description
    • Develop a deep understanding of the business strategy and build the appropriate people strategy to align with the long and short-term needs of the business
    • Cooperate with regional key team members, support their development, and enable them to be better leaders for their organizations
    • Improve the capability and tactical deployment of human resources within the Asia organization, which requires a thorough analysis of the way human resources are currently delivered in the region
    • Develop detailed recommendation to the Regional Managing Director and Global HRD
    • Create a safe, fulfilling, and enjoyable working environment for the employees
    • Implement transformation programs (e.g. sales force effectiveness, lean manufacturing) in partnership with key functional stakeholders
    • Develop and maintain, in partnership with Shanghai HR group and the Operations Management, a tactical and deliverable training program aimed at operational improvement through efficiency and productivity gains
    • Establish the people-related processes that support the right person, right time, right place and right cost
    • Put in place the systems to ensure compliance with people-related regulatory requirements (e.g. Data Protection)
  • Job Specification
    • Degree educated, preferably with a business/economics or similar specialism. Ideally, with a focus on strategic HR development and deployment
    • Experience in leading an HR function on a regional basis (APAC background preferred), with responsibility for the full breadth of HR capabilities
    • Equally proficient in operating at the tactical and operational level as developing the long-term strategy
    • Practical knowledge about:
      • Managing complex employee relations environments, specifically in China
      • Developing and leading a culture change program that impacted an organization positively
      • Recruiting and cultivating high-performing individuals and teams, with team-based approaches to leadership
  • Experience of working outside HR, possibly in a commercial or operational field. Strong understanding of commercials, able to read business trends, interpret simple balance sheets, and etc
  • Ability to be a credible business partner, build people strategy aligned to business strategy, and drive organizational change with business savvy
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English
