Job Description
This is for our Client , who is an industry-leading company with over 35 years of experience in creating physical special effects for Film, Television, Commercials, Live Events, and Exhibitions. Their wide range of services includes pyrotechnics, atmospherics, animatronics, models & miniatures, props, prosthetics, and special costumes.
Salary Range
£40,000 - £46,000 per annum
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Break down scripts to identify required models and effects, including pyrotechnics, and discuss these with the Producer, Director, and Production Designer.
- Provide estimates and ensure the work stays within the agreed budget.
- Participate in pre-production meetings to address requirements, with a focus on safety aspects.
- Assist the Production Manager in assigning a skilled team of technicians.
- Oversee and delegate the preparation, construction, and execution of models and effects.
- Liaise with relevant departments to address safety requirements and collaborate on props or costume needs.
- Ensure a qualified deputy is present on set when not available.
- Discuss and plan effects shots with directors and cinematographers, considering camera angles, lenses, and post-production requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and COSHH regulations.
- Maintain detailed work records and supervise the work of technicians.
Additional Duties for Pyrotechnics
- Familiarity with regulations for packaging, transportation, and storage of pyrotechnics and explosives.
- Knowledge of various pyrotechnic materials, squibs, and fire effects equipment.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols related to pyrotechnics and fire effects on set.
- Manage pyrotechnic and fire effects in the absence of a senior designer.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Experience
- Full UK driving license.
- Proven experience as a senior technician in the industry.
- Strong knowledge of materials, equipment, and SFX techniques.
- Understanding of safety requirements on and off set.
- Knowledge of camera angles, lenses, and post-production solutions.
- Effective team collaboration and communication skills.
- Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Design-related qualification.
- Experience with materials and equipment used in pyrotechnic and fire effects.
