Professional Nurse - Ribumed Behavioural Centre Psychiatric ward

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To provide age-appropriate patient care according to the nursing scope of practice as defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC).

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Practice within your scope of practice as a Registered Nurse.
• Provide care for patients with acute conditions by building therapeutic relationships and responding to their physical and emotional needs while delivering effective care.
• Administer patients' medication and treatments and monitor outcomes.
• Manage symptoms of mental illness, de-escalate stressful situations, and support patients in overcoming challenges.
• Engage with patients' families and other members of the healthcare team, providing advice and information regarding patients' conditions.
• Prepare and maintain patient records and develop care plans and risk assessments.
• Organize group therapy sessions, including social and artistic activities aimed at promoting patients' mental recovery.
• Lead and supervise the team.
• Attend to patients' complaints.
• Provide safe, high-quality patient care within the ward/unit.
• Comply with SANC requirements and all relevant stakeholder legislation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Matric is essential.
• Diploma or Degree in Nursing Science or a related qualification.
• Must be Psych trained.
• Must be registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with valid APC.
• Must have two or more years of experience as a Professional Nurse in a Psychiatric Ward.
• Computer literate – MS Word & Excel.
• Must be prepared to do shift-work (Night shift / Day Shift).
