About the job Reinstatement Assistant
We are looking for an experienced Reinstatement Assistant to support biodiversity restoration and habitat reinstatement activities for a major infrastructure project in East Africa. This role will focus on habitat restoration verification, botanical surveys, ecological monitoring, and biodiversity compliance within natural and critical habitats.
Key Responsibilities:
Support biodiversity reinstatement verification surveys across project areas
Participate in site assessments and identify restoration requirements for completed construction zones
Verify natural regeneration and habitat restoration initiatives in natural, critical, and protected habitats
Monitor recolonization of flora and fauna within reinstated areas
Collect and analyze restoration performance data including vegetation cover, species diversity, and habitat recovery indicators
Monitor invasive alien species and assess effectiveness of control measures
Support implementation of site-specific restoration plans in coordination with contractors and consultants
Assist in topsoil replacement, erosion control, nursery development, and environmental monitoring activities
Requirements:
Diploma or Graduate Degree in Botany or related field
Minimum 15 years of experience supporting conservation, habitat restoration, or biodiversity projects
Strong field botany experience with extensive botanical survey exposure
Experience with reinstatement requirements for large-scale infrastructure or environmental projects
Good understanding of habitat restoration regulations and compliance standards
Familiarity with IFC standards, Critical Habitat Assessments (CHA), and biodiversity management plans
Experience in East Africa or similar ecological regions is highly preferred
Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
