Position Overview

A well-established automotive manufacturing company in Port Elizabeth is seeking an experienced, hands-on Stores Supervisor / Stores Manager to take full ownership of its stores and inventory-control function.

The successful candidate must have extensive stores supervisory or management experience within a manufacturing environment and be comfortable operating in a busy, deadline-driven workplace. This role requires a resilient and accountable individual who can maintain strict stock controls, manage employees, prepare for audits and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full operational responsibility for the stores and inventory-control function.
  • Supervise, coordinate and motivate stores personnel.
  • Ensure the accurate receipt, inspection, recording and storage of raw materials, components and consumables.
  • Control the issuing of materials and components to production.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and ensure system quantities correspond with physical stock.
  • Plan and manage monthly, cycle and annual stocktakes.
  • Coordinate the monthly stocktake conducted on the first day of every month.
  • Prepare the stores department for year-end stock audits.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors during stock counts and audit processes.
  • Investigate stock variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation relating to receipts, issues, transfers, returns and adjustments.
  • Manage stock locations, bin accuracy and warehouse housekeeping.
  • Monitor minimum and maximum stock levels.
  • Identify slow-moving, obsolete and excess stock.
  • Ensure production requirements are supported without unnecessary delays.
  • Liaise closely with production, procurement, finance, quality and logistics departments.
  • Ensure materials are correctly labelled, stored and handled.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, quality and company procedures.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate stock-control procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the stores environment.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement practical improvements to processes, layouts and workflows.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance and productivity.
  • Assist with employee training, development and disciplinary matters where necessary.
  • Prepare regular stock, variance and operational reports for management.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and audit-ready stores environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric or an equivalent qualification.
  • A relevant qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, Warehouse Management or Operations would be advantageous.
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years' stores supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience would be highly advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing monthly and annual stocktakes.
  • Previous involvement in year-end stock audits is essential.
  • Strong understanding of stock control, inventory accuracy and variance investigations.
  • Experience supervising and managing stores employees.
  • Sound computer literacy and experience using ERP, stock-control or warehouse-management systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement exposure would be advantageous.
  • A valid driver's licence and reliable transport would be advantageous.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 07:45 to 15:45
  • Friday: 08:00 to 14:00

A full stocktake is conducted on the first day of every month. Where the first day of the month falls on a weekend, the successful candidate will be required to attend the stocktake and will receive time off in lieu.

  • Salary package of approximately R25,000 per month, subject to qualifications and experience.
