Job Summary: The Accounting Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, monitor and analyze accounting data, and produce financial reports or statements. This role requires a highly meticulous and analytical professional who embraces technology, possesses a strong understanding of accounting principles, and can lead a team to meet tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead the accounting department staff, including accountants and clerks.
- Oversee routine department activities, such as payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status by developing budgets, financial forecasts, and variance reports.
- Coordinate and complete annual audits, providing recommendations for improvements.
- Assist with tax audits and tax returns directly or through coordination with external tax accountants.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes ensuring timely completion.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles and company procedures.
- Liaise with the firms clients to provide comprehensive accounting services and support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field.
- Professional certification (SAIPA , CIMA , CA(SA) etc.)
- Proven experience as an accounting supervisor or senior accountant.
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles.
- Experience with creating financial statements and general ledger functions.
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements and accounting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent leadership and communication abilities.
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Working Conditions:
- Office environment with standard office hours.
- Occasional overtime may be required during busy periods such as end-of-year reporting.
