About the job Junior Costing Engineer / Estimator

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Junior Costing Engineer/Estimator to join for our bespoke manufacturing operation. This role involves the interpreting of GA drawings and technical specifications then preparing detailed project costings, sourcing suppliers of technical componentry and project cost management amongst other things.

Overview of Job Requirements

1. Sourcing:

Identify and evaluate suppliers of raw materials, componentry, equipment and services in accordance with the General Arrangement Drawings and Technical Specifications for the required project. 

Negotiate best possible pricing, without compromising quality standards.

Conduct market research to stay informed about marine industry trends, new technologies and suppliers.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate terms and conditions effectively.

2. Costing Analysis:

Prepare detailed Project costings to allow salesforce to establish final vessel build price.

Prepare detailed Technical Specification to accompany sales proposal and build contract.

Monitor and report on pricing trends, cost changes, and market conditions (FX rate tracking).

3. Collaboration:

Work closely with designers, production and sales teams to understand end clients technical requirements and ensure sourcing aligns with client and production needs.

Participate with cross-functional teams to prepare the costed the bill of materials to hand off to procurement.

Work closely with purchasing to ensure lead time coincide with vessel build schedules.

Work with Project team to ensure costs are contained within budget and any Variation Orders are recorded and costed accurately.

4. Documentation and Compliance:

Maintain accurate records of supplier contacts, pricing agreements, and procurement activities.

Ensure all supplier contracts include detailed terms of negotiation, providing clear guidelines and compliance with terms and conditions.

Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations regarding sourcing and procurement.

Ensure records are properly filed to support clear audits or reviews in line with ISO and other applicable regulations.

5. Continuous Improvement:

Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency in sourcing and pricing strategies.

Participate where applicable in training and development initiatives to stay updated on industry best practices.

Contribute to cost-saving initiatives across technical sourcing and procurement processes.

Experience and Qualifications

Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Costing Management, Engineering, Cost Estimating or related field will be preferred.

Proven experience in technical sourcing and costing, preferably in the manufacturing or marine industry.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.

Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Proficient in sourcing software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge of boats and or boat building construction processes is highly advantageous.

Knowledge of basic imports and exports advantageous

Understanding of Pastel Accounting programmes is advantageous, but not essential
