Position Overview

Our client, a leader in industrial safety and risk management, is seeking a highly experienced Technical Safety Specialist. This role is critical for ensuring compliance with safety standards, managing process safety initiatives, and influencing fire protection and risk management strategies. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance, conduct risk analyses, and develop comprehensive safety solutions tailored to operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with executive management to emphasize and sustain a culture of process safety excellence, allocating resources to improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership in interpreting and applying process safety management (PSM) standards, fire prevention protocols, and protection system design codes.
  • Evaluate and validate the completion of comprehensive process hazard analyses (PHA) for all critical operations, ensuring compliance with established safety frameworks.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of detailed process safety documentation, including hazard and technology data for highly hazardous chemicals (HHC).
  • Assess the environmental and community impact of operational activities, employing global standards such as carbon footprint assessments.
  • Conduct safety reviews for new facilities and significant modifications to existing operations to confirm adherence to design specifications and operational safety requirements.
  • Ensure that effective safety, operational, maintenance, and emergency response procedures are in place and regularly updated.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Fire Engineering, Loss Management Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in safety engineering, fire protection planning, and risk management within industrial environments.
  • Expertise in influencing and guiding decision-makers to implement and uphold effective safety strategies and practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of risk analysis, process safety management, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to addressing complex safety challenges.
  • Proficiency in using advanced safety tools and software, including Microsoft Office, PHAST, and PHA-Pro.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build consensus and inspire action.
