Our client, a Global Law Firm, is looking for a Catering Assistant who will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the kitchen and catering services, ensuring smooth and efficient service delivery. This role will focus on preparing and serving food and beverages, maintaining cleanliness and organization within the kitchen, and assisting with the setup for client functions. The Catering Assistant will work closely with the kitchen team and other staff members to ensure that all tasks are completed to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Catering and Event Support:

  • Knowledge of procedures for ordering from various service providers (e.g., Aquazania, Just Grace, StrangeFoods, Empact) to ensure catering needs are met.
  • Assist with serving tea, coffee, and lunches in meeting rooms, ensuring high-quality service and client satisfaction.
  • Wash crockery and cutlery daily, ensuring they are clean and ready for the next service.
  • Assist in preparing lunch orders as requested by clients or staff.
  • Ensure the kitchen is adequately stocked with necessary ingredients and supplies, regularly checking inventory and reporting any shortages.
  • Fill and maintain water coolers for daily use, ensuring there is always an adequate supply of water available.
  • Maintain cleanliness in kitchen areas, ensuring all surfaces, equipment, and utensils meet the highest hygiene standards.
  • Assist in the stocking and setup of the bar for client functions, ensuring everything is prepared for service.

Reception and Client Interaction:

  • Greet clients at reception and guide them to the appropriate areas.
  • Effectively manage the meeting room booking system, ensuring all bookings are handled promptly and efficiently.
  • Attend to all technical service call-outs for meeting room equipment, notifying the IT department of any potential issues in a timely manner.

Switchboard Relief:

  • Answer telephones promptly and politely, take accurate messages, and forward them to the appropriate recipients during the absence of the switchboard operator (e.g., during breaks or absence).

Meeting and Event Support:

  • Assist with organizing functions, both internal and external, by managing RSVP lists, preparing name tags, setting up registration desks, and ensuring catering layouts are in place.
  • Set up seminar and meeting facilities, ensuring that all equipment and seating arrangements are prepared according to event requirements.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 education.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years' experience in catering or waitressing is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of stove and microwave use, as well as basic baking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Knowledge of kitchen cleanliness standards and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of table setting and stock control procedures.
