About the job Patent Counselor
Our partner is now looking for a highly motivated Industrial Patent Champion to join their team and play a vital role in safeguarding the Group's intellectual property (IP).
In this role, you'll be responsible for:
- Empowering Innovation: Collaborate closely with our technical teams to identify and protect groundbreaking inventions. You'll ensure know-how is secured and confidentiality measures are in place, especially for manufacturing processes.
- Strategic IP Protection: Spearhead the drafting, filing, and prosecution of key patents (in coordination with our Patent Cluster Lead).
- Competitive Intelligence: Conduct regular patent screenings and analyses to understand the competitive landscape, identify potential risks, and pinpoint opportunities for white space innovation.
- Risk Mitigation Expertise: Provide expert advice on mitigating patent risks, including non-infringement opinions and invalidation analysis of competitor patents in Thailand and China.
- Contractual Savvy: Offer guidance on IP matters within contractual and technical relationships, such as collaboration agreements, supplier contracts, and technology licenses.
- Team Player: Act as a bridge between IP and various departments (R&D, Engineering, Operations, Legal, HR,etc.) under the guidance of our Asia-Pacific Senior IP Counsel.
To thrive in this role, you'll ideally have:
- Advanced Degrees: A Master's degree or higher in science, chemistry, or chemical engineering, combined with a law degree.
- Technical Expertise: Experience working with organic chemistry, material science, and chemical engineering inventions and patent landscapes.
- Proven Track Record: At least 5 years of experience in patent law firms or as an in-house patent counselor in the industry.
- Drafting Prowess: Strong patent drafting skills.
- Communication Champion: Open, proactive, with excellent communication skills for smooth collaboration across diverse teams.
- Reporting Ace: Ability to create clear, concise reports that synthesize complex information.
- Business Acumen: A keen ability to balance legal considerations with business goals, understanding the commercial implications of your advice.
