Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Interpret health record content to ensure that all diagnoses and procedures coded are supported by physician documentation.
  • Maintain a coding accuracy rating of at least 95% on records assigned.
  • Perform coding on medical records in an efficient manner meeting productivity standards and assisting the department in meeting and maintaining its goals.
  • Perform billing edits, coding corrections, DRG changes.
  • Review records following feedback from payers, auditors and managers and makes corrections to coding, disposition and/or DRG assignment when indicated.
  • Review and interpret Inpatient, Outpatient, Ancillary, Diagnostics and Emergency Medicine or other patient records in order to assign appropriate ICD-10 CM/PCS diagnosis and procedure codes and/or HCPCS/CPT procedure codes.
  • Performs coding and abstracting tasks to support billing, data quality and statistics, and to support calculation for severity of illness and risk of mortality reporting.
  • Apply information on diagnostic reports (i.e. radiology, pathology, EKG reports, laboratory values, doctors' orders and administrative medication forms) to accurate code patient charts in accordance with the Official Coding Guidelines.

Requirements:

  • College Diploma in Medical Coding or one year coding experience in a healthcare environment required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS code sets
  • Must have ability to thrive in fast paced environment
  • Must be able to communicate with patients, peers, physicians, and the general public.
