About the Role
JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Permit & LOTO Coordinator to support the safe execution of construction, commissioning, startup, and operational activities across major mining and industrial projects. This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, with travel to project sites as required. The Permit & LOTO Coordinator will be responsible for administering and coordinating the site Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs, ensuring all work activities involving hazardous energy, high-risk tasks, and operational interfaces are properly planned, authorized, executed, and documented. Working closely with Operations, Construction, Commissioning, Maintenance, HSE, and Contractors, this position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe work environment and supporting operational readiness throughout project execution.

Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain the site Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate the review, issuance, suspension, extension, and closure of permits for high-risk work activities
- Verify all permit applications include appropriate hazard assessments, safe work procedures, isolation plans, and supporting documentation
- Facilitate daily permit coordination meetings involving Operations, Construction, Commissioning, Maintenance, and Contractor personnel
- Review and coordinate simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) to identify and mitigate potential conflicts and risks
- Develop, review, and verify energy isolation plans for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and process systems
- Coordinate the implementation and verification of lockout/tagout activities to ensure equipment and systems are safely isolated prior to work commencement
- Maintain permit, isolation, and lockout records, ensuring documentation is accurate, current, and audit-ready
- Conduct field inspections and audits to verify compliance with permit conditions, isolation procedures, and site safety requirements
- Support construction, commissioning, maintenance shutdowns, and startup activities through effective permit and isolation planning
- Work closely with Operations and Commissioning teams to manage equipment boundaries, system ownership, and turnover processes
- Participate in risk assessments, pre-job planning sessions, toolbox meetings, and operational readiness reviews
- Identify permit and isolation system improvements and recommend practical solutions to enhance safety and efficiency
- Investigate permit- or isolation-related incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, supporting corrective action implementation
- Assist in the development, review, and continuous improvement of PTW, LOTO, and energy isolation procedures
- Deliver training, coaching, and mentorship to employees and contractors on permit and isolation requirements
- Support regulatory inspections, client audits, and internal compliance reviews
- Ensure all work is conducted safely and in alignment with company policies, procedures, and project objectives
Package Details
Qualifications
- Diploma, Trade Certification, Engineering Technology Diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mining, industrial, construction, commissioning, or operational environments
- Minimum 3 years of experience administering Permit-to-Work and/or Lockout/Tagout systems on large industrial or mining projects
- Strong understanding of hazardous energy isolation principles and industry best practices
- Experience with high-risk work activities including confined space entry, hot work, working at heights, critical lifts, and energized systems
- Knowledge of construction, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness processes
- Experience coordinating activities between Operations, Contractors, Construction, and Commissioning teams
- Familiarity with applicable occupational health and safety legislation and industry standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic permit management systems
- Experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial facilities is considered a strong asset
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required
