Position Overview

The Package Area Lead for Shafts & Headframes is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of assigned project packages—from scope development through RFP issuance, proposal evaluation, recommendation for award, contract negotiation, and post‑award management up to handover to the Construction Team.

This role manages a team of package coordinators and oversees all interfaces between internal and external service providers, including Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Safety, Permitting, and Environment.

The Package Area Lead develops package strategies, ensures execution against those plans, and maintains accountability across all aspects of the package lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Area of Focus

  • Lead packages that support the engineering, supply, and construction of the shafts and headframes.
  • Manage packages for key deliverables such as (but not limited to):
    • Hoists
    • Conveyances
    • Sheaves
    • Electrical equipment
    • Ropes
    • Shaft guides
    • Buntons
    • Additional equipment and materials required for this project area

Project Package Lifecycle

  • Develop and execute package strategies.
  • Ensure alignment among all key project stakeholders and support teams.
  • Maintain accountability for assigned packages while supporting team members with theirs.
  • Adjust strategies and schedules as needed to meet project commitments.

Package Management

  • Provide guidance and direction to package coordinators and team members.
  • Direct engineering service providers to ensure technical bid packages are delivered on schedule and aligned with package strategies.
  • Ensure service providers integrate their schedules into the projects overall schedule and take ownership of those timelines.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and mitigations to maintain or improve the project schedule.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Procurement to complete all proposal deliverables and process steps.

Project Environment

  • Work effectively as part of the Integrated Project Team (IPT).
  • Maintain accountability for direct reports within the team.
  • Contribute to achieving project scope, schedule, and cost objectives.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience in large‑scale industrial construction projects (mining experience preferred).
  • Strong understanding of the complete project package management lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, consultants, and owner teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • High level of integrity with the ability to identify risks and execute mitigation strategies.
