About the Role

JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced Underground Buyer to support the procurement of materials, equipment, and services for an underground mining project located in the interior of British Columbia. This is a camp‑based, fly‑in / fly‑out (FIFO) position operating on a rotational schedule, with full camp accommodations provided while on site.

The Underground Buyer will work closely with site operations, engineering, expediting, logistics, and contract management teams to ensure timely and cost‑effective procurement in support of underground development and operations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining schedule certainty, cost control, and supplier performance in a dynamic site‑based environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure materials, equipment, and services in support of underground mining and development activities
  • Issue RFQs, evaluate bids, negotiate commercial terms, and award purchase orders and service contracts
  • Work closely with engineering, underground operations, and technical services to ensure procurement aligns with technical specifications and project requirements
  • Coordinate with expediting and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of critical underground materials and equipment
  • Monitor supplier performance and address commercial or delivery issues as required
  • Ensure purchase orders and contracts comply with project, contractual, and company standards
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, contract files, and purchasing documentation
  • Support cost control by identifying value opportunities, alternative suppliers, and procurement efficiencies
  • Participate in supplier and contract progress meetings as required
  • Provide regular procurement status updates to project and commercial teams
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and ethical procurement practices

Package Details

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in procurement or buying roles supporting underground mining or heavy industrial projects
  • Strong understanding of underground mining operations, materials, and services
  • Experience procuring underground equipment, consumables, contractor services, and long‑lead items
  • Familiarity with ERP and procurement systems such as SAP, SmartPlant Materials, Oracle, or similar
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience in contract terms and negotiations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and procurement reporting tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
