Role Summary

The Engineering Director is accountable for overall engineering delivery, including planning, coordinating, and supervising all engineering activities across disciplines. The role ensures technical excellence, schedule adherence, resource alignment, and integration across engineering functions to meet project and corporate objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering Leadership & Oversight

  • Provide technical and strategic leadership, mentorship, and direction to Area Engineers, Discipline Leads, and engineering teams.
  • Champion discipline‑based engineering procedures, work processes, and lessons learned.
  • Oversee development, review, and approval of engineering designs and technical documents.
  • Clear written and verbal communication to the team, leadership and consultants

2. Planning & Coordination

  • Manage engineering scope definition and ensure alignment with project execution plans.
  • Develop or oversee engineering schedules, resource plans, and work package structures (EWPs).
  • Coordinate engineering inputs from third parties, vendors, and project information systems.

3. Management of Engineering Deliverables

  • Lead planning, accuracy, and timely delivery of all engineering deliverables across disciplines.
  • Ensure budgets and job‑hour forecasts are maintained and adhered to.
  • Baseline engineering schedules and release work packages to support project phases.

4. Cross‑Functional Integration & Communication

  • Liaise with Project Senior Leadership, Area Managers, and other stakeholders to align priorities and resolve issues.
  • Facilitate clear, timely communication across project and engineering groups.
  • Support integrated project teams and coordinate multidisciplinary work.

5. Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Guide and oversee implementation of Safety in Design principles.
  • Ensure engineering work meets quality assurance and control requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical risks early to avoid project or contractual impacts.
  • Ensure that all engineering meets Information Management System (IMS) requirements and CSA N286

6. People Leadership & Development

  • Onboard, and develop engineering staff as needed for project execution.
  • Build effective, collaborative teams across disciplines and geographic areas.
  • Builds trust and strong relationships within the team, and across consultants.
  • Demonstrates empathy, flexibility, and collaboration.

Package Details

Qualifications & Experience (Typical)

  • Degree in engineering discipline; P.Eng or equivalent preferred.
  • 20 years of Engineering combined with Project Delivery experience
  • Strong experience in EPC(M) engineering environments and large capital projects.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with engineering management systems, scheduling tools, and project controls.
