About the Role

JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced Underground Superintendent to support the development and execution of an underground mining project located in the interior of British Columbia. This is a camp-based, fly‑in/fly‑out (FIFO) position operating on a rotational schedule, with full camp accommodations provided while on site.

The Underground Superintendent will oversee underground construction, development, and installation activities, working closely with engineering and project teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality execution. This role is critical in bridging engineering design with field execution, ensuring plans are effectively implemented and optimized in a dynamic project environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise underground development, construction, and installation activities
  • Develop, communicate, and execute detailed work plans and schedules
  • Interpret and implement engineering drawings, specifications, and Ground Control Management Plans
  • Collaborate with Geotechnical, Mining, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineers to support execution and optimize designs
  • Build strong working relationships with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to continuous design improvement
  • Monitor progress and productivity, adjusting plans and reforecasting as required
  • Review and mark up engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Communicate confidently with clients and Owner's teams regarding progress, risks, and solutions
  • Oversee and support complex underground installations, including:
    • Portal collaring
    • Underground crusher installations
    • Complex geotechnical ground development
    • Paste distribution systems and booster stations
    • Ventilation systems
    • Underground dewatering systems
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project objectives

Qualifications

  • Strong computer and administrative skills, with the ability to independently prepare plans, reports, and communications
  • Solid understanding of underground mining methods, systems, and engineering requirements
  • Proven experience with complex underground mining projects and technical installations
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Experience developing schedules, tracking progress, and reforecasting
  • Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Mining Engineering background or related technical education considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, engineers, and project teams in a professional and technical manner
  • Willingness to work rotational schedules and travel as required
