Job Title: VP, Projects
Reports to (Title): President
Project / Location: Vancouver, BC, hybrid, and various project sites
Summary
The Vice President, Projects is responsible for overseeing the project portfolio of development phase (basic engineering and execution) projects for the company and providing inter-company support (through resources and expertise) for study-phase projects (due diligence, PEA, PFS, and Feasibility). This role is responsible for ensuring that projects align with organizational goals, adhere to health & safety standards, and high levels of customer satisfaction is achieved. Responsibilities include driving execution of project delivery, managing resources, conducting reviews, and providing strategic direction.
Responsibilities
The VP, Projects will be responsible for the following functions:
Portfolio Management:
- Oversee and manage the execution of a diverse portfolio of engineering and construction projects,including feasibility studies, front-end engineering and planning, and project execution/EPC.
- Act as a Project Sponsor and client point-of-contact for existing projects.
- Ensure projects are delivered in alignment with organizational objectives and strategic goals.
- Drive project delivery to meet budget constraints, timelines, and quality standards.
- Aim for high levels of customer satisfaction through effective project execution and management.
- Conduct monthly project reviews, audits, and in-depth analyses to monitor progress and performance.
- Provide timely interventions and corrective actions to address any issues and ensure successful project completion.
Staff Forecasting, Management, and Development:
- Forecast, plan, and manage project resources, including the detailed allocation, deployment, and demobilization of project teams, with the support of the Director, HR and the GM, Projects.
- Ensure optimal use of resources to support project requirements and schedules.
- Manage and coach assigned staff, providing guidance, development opportunities, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Ensure team members are equipped with the skills and knowledge required for successful project delivery.
Strategic Direction:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize project delivery processes and achieve project goals.
Project Definition & Setup:
- Utilize expertise in various project delivery models (e.g., EPCM, EPC, OIT) to strategically enhance project delivery strategies.
- Develop and implement project plans and schedules, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality, safety, and environmental standards.
- Perform Project Setup initiatives, including acting within project teams to ensure that project setup is performed efficiently and that project teams are set up for success.
Business Development & Proposals:
- Collaborate with the Director, Business Development to identify and pursue new opportunities.
- Develop proposals for new work and present to prospective clients.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Create and maintain a collaborative environment to ensure seamless coordination between the Technical Services, Environmental, and Projects departments.
Management Systems Implementation:
- Oversee the implementation and use of Project Management systems, such as PIMs cost control, Aconex document management, and internal systems for earned value management.
- Participate in the selection of new project specific tools.
Compensation
Competitive salary is offered with annual discretionary bonus and health benefits.
Travel expenses to/from a project site are reimbursed.
Work Schedule & Location
Full-time salary position.
Ideally, the candidate is located in Vancouver, BC. Relocation assistance to Vancouver may be available. Hybrid arrangements may be acceptable for the right candidate.
Site visit and short-duration site-rotations (i.e., for project setup) will be required.
Time off will be accommodated with appropriate advanced notice to the President.
Qualifications/Experience/Education Requirements
Degree in Mining, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Applied Sciences or related experience.
Registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
Minimum 15 years of professional experience in a senior operations or project management role, with diverse experience across different stages of the mining project life cycle.
Background in engineering, construction, or operations in mining projects.
Strong project management skills and experience, with a broad understanding of planning, scheduling, progress reporting, contracting terms, and change management.
Track record of influencing leadership decisions through clear communication and understanding of companywide priorities.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong presentation skills.

Must have strong English written and verbal communication skills. Spanish communication skills are an asset.
