Summary:
The Underground Project/Field Engineer is responsible for providing a wide range of practical technical, administrative and engineering support functions for underground mine construction projects to ensure safe, timely and cost-effective execution.

Key areas of responsibility:
Safety, health and environmental compliance;
Practical technical effectiveness;
Communication of plans and results;
Contractor/contract management;
Optimization of development and construction work;
Client relationship management;
Short and mid-range mine development design and construction planning;
Document control support;
Cost control support; and
Stakeholder support.
Work Schedule/Compensation:
Compensation is based on actual hours worked (hourly as opposed to salary);
Office work is generally performed at 8-9 hours per day, 5 days per week. Office work is capped at 10 hours per day and on-site work is capped at 12 hours per day;
Travel time to/from a project site is paid from point of hire up to a maximum of 8 hours per travel day;
Travel costs to/from a project site are reimbursed, including meals/per-diems;
Time off will be accommodated with appropriate advanced notice to the Divisional Vice President;
Vacation starts at two weeks per year (and included in hourly compensation). Additional un-paid time off is available based on project workload; and
Expenses for training, when pre-approved by an employees manager, are paid for by JDS. Time attending training is not compensated unless an exemption is granted.
Technical/Experience/Education Requirements:
Knowledge of engineering standards and practices;
Organized planning and organizing skills;
Underground quality control knowledge;
Project, work package and contractor management;
Professional-level Microsoft Office and Deswik skills;
Degree in Mining Engineering or related engineering discipline applicable to mining;
Minimum five (5) years post qualification, site-based experience in technical support for shaft sinking, underground mine planning and engineering, lateral and cave development and/or underground contractor management; and
Experience in the underground EPCM mining projects environment or as an underground development/construction contractor.
