Job Description:

Field Engineering role with a specialization in earthworks, soil management, and surface infrastructure.

Interpret and update civil and structural drawings using CAD software based on field conditions, redline markups, and design changes.

Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to verify site installations and generate as-built drawings and technical documentation.

Ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of bulk earthworks, road construction, pads, dams, and related civil scopes on complex mine and infrastructure projects in remote environments.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful outcomes under challenging site conditions and tight project timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical field support and leadership for earthworks and civil infrastructure scopes, including grading, roads, embankments, drainage systems, pads, berms, and dams.
  • Draft engineering drawings, based on survey and field reports, for engineering approval.
  • Oversee the execution of excavation, hauling, soil placement, compaction, and erosion control activities to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform or review calculations, field tests, and technical assessments for geotechnical suitability, compaction criteria, slope stability, and settlement.
  • Collaborate with geotechnical engineers and design teams to validate assumptions and address evolving ground conditions.
  • Monitor contractor performance and provide on-site direction during construction phases to ensure quality, safety, and schedule compliance.
  • Develop and review construction documentation, including method statements, QA/QC plans, lift plans, and material specifications.
  • Conduct field inspections, surveys, and as-built reviews; support materials testing and document construction progress and field decisions.
  • Support and coordinate environmental controls such as stormwater management, sediment containment, and dust mitigation.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, contractors, and consultants to ensure alignment on objectives and problem-solving in the field.
  • Participate in technical and coordination meetings; contribute to constructability reviews and risk assessments.
  • Prepare field reports, technical memos, and documentation for stakeholders, highlighting construction status, challenges, and engineering input.
  • Remain informed on industry best practices, evolving standards in earthworks and geotechnical engineering, and innovations in equipment and construction techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant field experience, with a strong background in earthworks and heavy civil construction.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical investigations, soil mechanics, compaction standards, and erosion control methods.
  • Proficiency in mining and/or civil software (MinePlan, Deswick, Civil3D, etc.).
  • Experience working on remote, mining, or large-scale infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant engineering codes, standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in reading civil drawings, survey files, and earthworks models.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills in fast-paced environments.
  • Willingness to work in remote project locations on a rotational basis if required.
