The Concrete Superintendent is responsible for the overall field execution of concrete construction activities for mining and industrial projects. This position provides leadership to construction crews, foremen, and contractors and works closely with engineering, project controls, procurement, and project management to ensure concrete works are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules, specifications, budgets, and quality requirements.

Responsibilities:

Construction Leadership

  • Lead the execution of concrete construction activities across multiple work fronts and crews.
  • Oversee formwork, reinforcing steel, concrete placement, finishing, curing, and related activities.
  • Develop and coordinate construction sequencing, manpower, equipment, materials, and concrete pour schedules.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and construction plans to ensure work is properly planned and executed.
  • Coordinate daily field activities and resolve construction issues to maintain progress.

Crew & Contractor Management

  • Provide leadership and direction to foremen, trades, subcontractors, and construction crews.
  • Coordinate contractor performance, productivity, manpower, and equipment requirements.
  • Conduct daily coordination meetings and communicate priorities, schedule requirements, and safety expectations.
  • Monitor workmanship and productivity across all concrete work fronts.
  • Support workforce planning and ensure appropriate resources are available to meet project requirements.

Schedule & Cost Control

  • Monitor concrete activities against project schedules, milestones, and planned production.
  • Track quantities, productivity, manpower, equipment, and material usage.
  • Coordinate upcoming concrete pours and ensure required resources, inspections, materials, and approvals are in place.
  • Identify delays, constraints, and opportunities to improve productivity and construction sequencing.
  • Support cost tracking, forecasting, contractor progress claims, and change management.

Quality & Technical

  • Ensure concrete construction is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and QA/QC requirements.
  • Coordinate pre-pour inspections, rebar and formwork inspections, concrete testing, and required documentation.
  • Ensure embeds, anchor bolts, sleeves, and other interfaces are properly coordinated prior to concrete placement.
  • Lead the resolution of deficiencies, non-conformances, and technical issues.
  • Coordinate with engineering on design changes, RFIs, and field modifications.

Safety & Environmental

  • Provide visible safety leadership across all concrete construction activities.
  • Ensure crews and contractors comply with project safety requirements and safe work practices.
  • Identify and address hazards associated with formwork, reinforcing steel, lifting, concrete placement, and heavy equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Promote a strong safety and environmental culture across the project.

Project Coordination

  • Liaise with engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and other project disciplines.
  • Coordinate concrete interfaces with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process systems.
  • Participate in project, contractor, and construction coordination meetings.
  • Communicate progress, risks, issues, and schedule impacts to project management.
  • Support completion, punch list, commissioning, and handover activities.

Qualifications/Experience/Education Requirements

  • Diploma, trade qualification, or university degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in concrete construction, including progressive leadership or superintendent experience.
  • Experience delivering major concrete, industrial, mining, or heavy civil projects.
  • Strong experience with formwork, reinforcing steel, concrete placement, and construction sequencing.
  • Experience leading multiple crews, foremen, subcontractors, and work fronts.
  • Strong understanding of construction schedules, productivity, cost control, drawings, specifications, and QA/QC requirements.
  • Experience working in mining, mineral processing, EPC, or EPCM environments is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
