Position Overview
The Package Area Lead for Mining is responsible for managing the complete lifecycle of assigned project packages—from scope development through RFP issuance, proposal evaluation, recommendation for award, contract negotiation, and post‑award management up to handover to the Construction Team.
This role leads a team of package coordinators and oversees all interfaces between service providers, including Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Safety, Permitting, and Environment. The Package Area Lead develops package strategies, drives execution, and ensures successful delivery against project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Area of Focus
- Lead packages that support the engineering, supply, and construction of the underground mine.
- Manage packages for key deliverables such as (but not limited to):
- Mobile equipment
- Fixed plant equipment
- Lateral development
- Raw ore bins
- Conveyors
- Refuge stations
- Additional materials, equipment, and scopes required to support underground mining operations
Project Package Lifecycle
- Develop and execute project package strategies.
- Ensure alignment across all key stakeholders and support teams.
- Maintain accountability for assigned packages while supporting team members with theirs.
- Adjust strategies and schedules as needed to meet project commitments.
Package Management
- Provide guidance, leadership, and direction to package coordinators and other team members.
- Direct engineering service providers to ensure technical bid packages are delivered on schedule and aligned with package strategies.
- Ensure service providers integrate their schedules into the overall project schedule and take ownership of their commitments.
- Identify and act on opportunities, risks, and mitigation strategies to maintain or improve project schedule performance.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering and Procurement to complete all proposal deliverables and process requirements.
Project Environment
- Work effectively as part of the Integrated Project Team (IPT).
- Maintain accountability for direct reports and team performance.
- Contribute to achieving project scope, schedule, and cost targets.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5–7 years of experience in large‑scale industrial construction projects (mining experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of the full project package management lifecycle.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, consultants, and owner representatives.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- High level of integrity with the ability to identify risks and execute mitigation strategies.
