Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Class 4 Marine Engineer to support operations aboard an operating barge for the 2026 field season. This is a contract position responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical systems onboard the barge, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain barge machinery and systems, including:
    • Main and auxiliary engines
    • Generators
    • Pumps
    • Hydraulic and fuel systems
  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and basic repairs to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Maintain accurate engine room logs, maintenance records, and defect reports
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and coordinate repairs as required
  • Ensure compliance with Transport Canada, company, and project-specific safety requirements
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills
  • Work closely with the Captain, deck crew, and project personnel to support daily operations
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized engine room and mechanical spaces
  • Respond to alarms, malfunctions, and emergency situations as required

Package Details

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Valid Transport Canada Class 4 Marine Engineer Certificate
  • Proven experience working on barges, workboats, or similar marine vessels
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, generators, and marine mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to best practices
  • Physically fit for marine work and able to work in a remote or industrial environment

Preferred Assets

  • Previous experience on construction, dredging, or operating barges
  • Additional marine safety certifications (e.g., Marine Emergency Duties, First Aid)
