The Civil Works Lead is responsible for coordinating and overseeing civil construction activities for mining and industrial projects. This position works closely with engineering, project controls, contractors, construction teams, and site personnel to ensure civil works are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, schedules, budgets, specifications, and quality standards.
Responsibilities:
Civil Works Coordination
- Lead and coordinate civil construction activities including earthworks, excavation, grading, foundations, concrete, drainage, roads, and site infrastructure.
- Coordinate civil work scopes, construction activities, resources, and priorities with contractors and project teams.
- Review construction requirements, drawings, specifications, and schedules to support effective execution.
- Identify construction constraints, technical issues, and potential impacts to project schedule and cost.
- Support constructability reviews and development of practical construction methodologies.
Contractor & Site Coordination
- Coordinate and oversee civil contractors, subcontractors, and site crews.
- Monitor contractor performance, productivity, progress, and compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, and site access requirements.
- Work closely with construction, engineering, project controls, and other disciplines to resolve field issues.
- Participate in contractor meetings, site meetings, inspections, and coordination activities.
Schedule, Cost & Progress
- Monitor civil works against project schedules, milestones, and construction plans.
- Track quantities, progress, productivity, and resource requirements.
- Identify delays, constraints, and opportunities for schedule improvement.
- Support cost tracking, forecasting, and review of contractor progress claims.
- Prepare regular progress updates and reports for project management.
Quality & Technical Coordination
- Ensure civil works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, surveying, and QA/QC activities.
- Support the resolution of technical issues, deficiencies, and non-conformances.
- Coordinate engineering changes and field modifications with the appropriate project team members.
- Support completion of punch lists, deficiencies, and civil work closeout.
Safety & Environmental
- Promote a strong safety culture across all civil construction activities.
- Ensure contractors and site teams comply with project safety and environmental requirements.
- Identify and address construction hazards, environmental risks, and site conditions.
- Support project safety meetings, inspections, and corrective actions.
Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Liaise with engineering, project controls, procurement, environmental, construction, commissioning, and site teams.
- Coordinate civil interfaces with structural, mechanical, electrical, piping, and other project disciplines.
- Communicate civil work status, risks, issues, and schedule impacts to relevant stakeholders.
- Support construction planning through commissioning and project handover.

Qualifications/Experience/Education Requirements
- Diploma or university degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience in civil construction, construction management, or a related role.
- Experience working on mining, mineral processing, heavy civil, EPC, or EPCM projects is preferred.
- Experience with earthworks, concrete, foundations, drainage, roads, and site infrastructure.
- Experience coordinating contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and QA/QC requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Experience with project controls, scheduling, cost tracking, or construction management systems is an asset.
