Data Governance Lead 

Location: Netherlands (Hybrid)

About the Role

As a Data Governance Lead, you will play a key role in establishing, implementing, and embedding data governance across a complex enterprise environment.

You will work with business and IT stakeholders to define governance frameworks, improve data quality, and ensure data is managed as a strategic asset that supports business objectives and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement the organization's data governance strategy and operating model.

Define and maintain data governance policies, standards, processes, and frameworks.

Establish data ownership, stewardship, and accountability across business domains.

Drive improvements in data quality, metadata management, and master data governance.

Collaborate with business leaders, IT teams, and data stakeholders to embed governance practices into daily operations.

Support regulatory compliance and ensure adherence to relevant governance standards.

Lead organizational change by promoting data literacy and a strong data-driven culture.

Monitor governance performance through KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Extensive experience in Data Governance, Data Management, or Enterprise Information Management.

Proven track record of building and implementing data governance within large, complex organizations.

Strong stakeholder management and change management skills.

Experience defining governance frameworks, policies, and operating models.

Knowledge of data quality, metadata management, master data management, and data lifecycle management.

Excellent communication and facilitation skills.

Ability to bridge business and technical stakeholders.

Preferred

Experience within utilities, energy, infrastructure, or other highly regulated industries.

Familiarity with enterprise data governance frameworks and best practices.

Experience working in large-scale transformation programmes.
