Job Description:

  • Keeps company management aware of mechanical repair problems as they occur;
  • Assisting technician mechanics in performing technical activities;
  • Maintains an organized neat and safe vehicle repair bay;
  • Driving of Tractor/Trailers and/or Trucks for purposes of test drives and/or the return of vehicles to the various of the organisations facilities;
  • Other duties as required;
  • Inspect, analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose and perform repairs for Heavy Duty Truck Tractors, Trucks and Trailers;
  • Welding and metal fabrication of parts in need of repair;
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts;
  • Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation;
  • Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function;
  • Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment;
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair;
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups;
  • Perform mechanical and electrical trouble shooting and repair of equipment;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, experience and skills:

  • Diesel Trade Qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years experience on both light and heavy commercial vehicles
  • Basic automotive electric experience
  • Tyre fitment experience
  • Fuelling of vehicles
  • Cab cleaning
  • General (drive cam) maintenance
  • Relocating vehicle
  • Basic airbrakes knowledge
  • Prepared for 24 hours call out and break downs
  • Matric Certificate - Literate, read and write English
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent telephone, communication (oral and written), listening and problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail & ability to organize
