About the job Regional Manager

Key purpose:

Managing and developing the Northern Region in terms of costs, systems, structure, strategy
implementation, policy making and operational efficiency. This position operates at a mid-practice level.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Operational efficiency and effectiveness across the region. The efficiency of the region
    depends on how effectively and economically concrete resources are deployed.
  • The resources to be managed include a set of people, equipment, and premises; 
  • The Regional Manager must: oversees budgets that relate directly to the flow of work he or she must handle, but, only in exceptionable circumstances, veer between budgets and introduce new methods, train staff, and manage costs of extra staff time.
  • Manage and optimize the Region in terms of costs, systems, structure, strategy implementation and policy making.
  • Compiling budgets and forecast in consultation with Branch Managers.
  • Ensuring the region is managed and maintained according to the companies expectations in terms of KPIs.
  • Ensuring that good customer relations are maintained.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with ISO specifications and ensure that high operating standards and service levels are maintained.
  • Take advice from functional staff re best practice in their field and decide on what is possible within budget (Escalation Perspective)
  • Set goals with branches and ensure regular reviews.
  • Be aware of and responsive to local conditions.
  • Enforce regional management routines
  • Implement and manage Management Control Systems

Qualifications and experience:

  • Matric
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification (would be advantageous). 
  • Business Management Diploma/Degree will receive preference.
  • 5 Years middle / senior management experience in the road freight industry.
  • Knowledge of how to operate operational equipment.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Ability to operate independently.
  • Good planning and organising skills.
  • Generalist management skills including finance, administration, and human resources.
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate at a senior level and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent Commercial and Financial acumen.
  • Industrial relations skills.
  • Computer Literate (MS Office at an advanced level)
