Senior PHP Developer (WordPress)

Responsibilities

• Design and develop custom WordPress themes and plugins following WordPress coding standards.
• Work confidently with WordPress theme hierarchy and extensibility using actions and filters.
• Build upgrade-safe, maintainable backend solutions for long-term projects.
• Optimize WordPress applications for performance and scalability (database queries, caching, asset optimization).
• Identify and resolve performance issues in high-traffic environments.
• Develop and consume WordPress REST APIs and custom endpoints.
• Integrate WordPress with third-party systems (e.g. WooCommerce, CRM, ERP, external services).
• Use Git, Composer, and Docker in daily development workflows.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment, or testing setups.
• Collaborate closely with PMs, designers, and developers; take ownership of code quality and delivery timelines.

Requirements

Must-Have:

• From 4+ years of experience in PHP and WordPress backend development, with hands-on work on custom themes and plugins.
• Solid understanding of WordPress core architecture, including theme hierarchy, hooks (actions & filters), and best practices.
• Proven experience with performance optimization, including database queries, caching, and page speed improvements.
• Experience building and integrating REST APIs and custom endpoints.
• Hands-on experience integrating WordPress with third-party systems (e.g. WooCommerce, CRM, ERP, external APIs).
• Comfortable using Git for version control and collaborative development.
• Experience with Composer and modern PHP dependency management.
• Familiarity with Docker or containerized development environments.
• Understanding of CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
• Ability to clearly explain technical concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving mindset with a sense of ownership and accountability.
• Team-oriented attitude with the ability to work effectively across functions.

Nice to Have:

• Any additional programming language is a plus
• Involvement in the WordPress community is a big plus
• Knowledge of JavaScript
• Experience in working with WeChat API
