Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom WordPress themes and plugins following WordPress coding standards.
- Work confidently with WordPress theme hierarchy and extensibility using actions and filters.
- Build upgrade-safe, maintainable backend solutions for long-term projects.
- Optimize WordPress applications for performance and scalability (database queries, caching, asset optimization).
- Identify and resolve performance issues in high-traffic environments.
- Develop and consume WordPress REST APIs and custom endpoints.
- Integrate WordPress with third-party systems (e.g. WooCommerce, CRM, ERP, external services).
- Use Git, Composer, and Docker in daily development workflows.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment, or testing setups.
- Collaborate closely with PMs, designers, and developers; take ownership of code quality and delivery timelines.
Requirements
Must-Have:
- From 4+ years of experience in PHP and WordPress backend development, with hands-on work on custom themes and plugins.
- Solid understanding of WordPress core architecture, including theme hierarchy, hooks (actions & filters), and best practices.
- Proven experience with performance optimization, including database queries, caching, and page speed improvements.
- Experience building and integrating REST APIs and custom endpoints.
- Hands-on experience integrating WordPress with third-party systems (e.g. WooCommerce, CRM, ERP, external APIs).
- Comfortable using Git for version control and collaborative development.
- Experience with Composer and modern PHP dependency management.
- Familiarity with Docker or containerized development environments.
- Understanding of CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
- Ability to clearly explain technical concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a sense of ownership and accountability.
- Team-oriented attitude with the ability to work effectively across functions.
Nice to Have:
- Any additional programming language is a plus
- Involvement in the WordPress community is a big plus
- Knowledge of JavaScript
- Experience in working with WeChat API
