About the job Specialist Medical Officer of Nephrology

The Specialist Medical Officer in the Nephrology Unit will be involved in the care of the patients within the General Nephrology Ward, but also in the Dialysis Sub-Unit. They will autonomously perform the guard shift and take part to the work shift in the OPD Clinics belonging to the Nephrology Unit. The desired Specialist Medical Officer of Nephrology shall be a blend of technical skills and positive personal attributes. They must be skilled in conducting physical examinations, taking patient medical histories and interpreting the results of diagnostic tests. They will also coordinate patient care with other specialists within ISHU. The Specialist must be skilled at solving problems, communicating with others and making decisions quickly. Compassion, respect and integrity are just some of the personal attributes required.


Education and Experience profile:

  • A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
  • A M.Med. in Internal Medicine (or its equivalent) and a Fellowship or PhD in nephrology
  • Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
  • At least three (3) years of working experience in any area related to nephrology
