About the job Specialist Medical Officer of Radiotherapy Unit

The Specialist Medical Officer of Radiotherapy  Unit is mainly involved in the treatment of the cancer patients, in particular involving the use of radiation therapy, as one area of their cancer treatment. They will also been involved in the treatment of non- cancerous conditions using radiation therapy. They are responsible for monitoring the patient and organising imaging and other tests, in order to create and action a management plan for a patient. As radiation oncologists, they also work closely with radiation oncology medical physicists and radiation therapists to plan and deliver radiation therapy. They have an important role in communicating with patients, their family members and other carers in the management of the patients cancer and overall care. The Specialist Medical Officers of Radiotherapy Unit must be skilled at solving problems, communicating with others and making decisions quickly. Compassion, respect and integrity are just some of the personal attributes required.


Education and Experience profile:

  • A MBChB. or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  • A M.Sc. degree in Radiation Oncology or equivalent
  • Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in radiotherapy
