Senior Consultant of Ophthalmology

The Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist will play a critical role in delivering high-quality eye care, offering expert-level diagnosis, treatment, and surgical interventions for complex eye conditions. The position involves leading clinical activities within the Ophthalmology Unit, overseeing patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and performing advanced surgical procedures. The Senior Consultant will mentor junior staff, contribute to clinical training, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. The role also includes working closely with the Infection Prevention and Control Service and the Quality & Safety Department to implement measures that reduce infection risks. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to clinical excellence, a strategic vision for the advancement of ophthalmology services, and the ability to foster the development of local eye health professionals.

Education and experience profile:

• A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
• A M.Med./Felloowship in Ophthalmology
• Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
• Minimum of nine (9) years of work experience in Ophthalmology or related field
