About the job Head of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The Head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is responsible for leading, managing, and directing all clinical and operational activities within the NICU. This leadership role involves ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care is provided to critically ill newborns and infants, while also fostering a collaborative environment for staff and families. The Head of NICU ensures compliance with Joint Commission International (JCI) standards and other relevant regulations, driving performance excellence and safety in neonatal care.
Education
- A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
- A specialization in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, with board certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
- Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
Experience
- Minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in Neonatology
- Proven track record of managing a multidisciplinary team in a hospital or clinical setting.

- Has excellent communication, problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks
- Has excellent leadership skills including assistance and motivation of medical staff
- Is enthusiastic, enduring, and willing to work for extra hours
