The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) at the International Specialized Hospital of Uganda is responsible for the comprehensive oversight and management of radiation safety practices across the facility. The RSO ensures that all nuclear medicine procedures comply with international and national safety standards, safeguarding the health and safety of patients, staff, and the environment. This role involves conducting risk assessments, implementing safety protocols, and performing regular audits to monitor compliance. The RSO will also provide training to hospital staff on radiation safety, ensuring continuous improvement and promoting a culture of radiation protection throughout the hospital.

Education and Experience profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics or equivalent from a recognized University or Institution.
  • Board certification in Health Physics or Medical
    Physics.
  • Minimum of 5-7 (five to seven) years of experience in radiation safety within a healthcare or research environment, with strong knowledge of radiological and nuclear safety protocols.
  • Any additional certificates in the field of radiation protection will be an advantage.
  • Extensive familiarity with regulatory requirements, including those of the Atomic Energy Council, IAEA, and WHO, for radiation protection.
  • Proven experience with radiation monitoring equipment, dosimetry, and safety inspections.
