Specialist Medical Officer of Neurosurgery

The Specialist Medical Officer (SMO) of Neurosurgery Unit will be a part of an experienced Medical team, overseeing a comprehensive clinical neurosurgical program involving consultation services for inpatients and other health facilities in Uganda and abroad, outpatient clinics.

The SMO will report daily to the Head of Unit about the most recent or serious cases in the ward.

The SMO will attend periodic meetings with the Head of Unit, Neurologists, Physiotherapists and Anesthetists to evaluate which medical and surgical procedures to adopt for the various patients, and their rehabilitation after operations. The SMO will help the Head of Unit to cooperate with the Infection Control Unit and Quality Department to prepare suitable procedures to minimize the risk of infections in the Unit and to ensure the correct application of the same.

Education:

• A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
• A M.Med. in Neurosurgery (or equivalent)
• Must meet the requirement for registration of the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners

Experience:

• Minimum of three (3) years of work experience
