About the job Head of General & Oncological Surgery
The Haed of General & Oncological Surgery Unit is responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, direct and indirect, patient- centered care through the continuum of peri-operative care to include OPD clinics, inpatient ward and operating rooms. The Chief of the Unit is responsible for promoting high standards of practice through development of surgical policies, protocols and practice guidelines; participating in rigorous performance improvement monitoring; resident/student and staff education and surgical research. She/he has authority to act on all surgical performance improvement and administrative issues and critically review surgical deaths and complications that occur within the Unit.
Education:
- A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University.
- A M.Med. in General Surgery or its equivalent
- Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
Experience:
- Minimum of eight (8) years of work experience in a General Surgery Unit, of which three (3) years of experience in General or Oncological Surgery
- Has previous documented activities as team leaders in health sectors
- Has previous documented management experience in healthcare facilities
- Has surgical experience in advanced surgical procedures and in mini-invasive approach (Laparoscopy and/or Robotic).
- Scientific research titles in surgical sectors will be an asset

- Excellent leadership skills including assistance and motivation of medical staff
