About the job Head of Internal Medicine Unit
The Chief of Internal Medicine Unit (Principal Consultant) has the task of dictating generic and specific directives of a programmatic technical-organizational character, but also diagnostic-therapeutic ones for an efficient performance of the health activity and to verify the activity (autonomous and delegated) of the single doctors assigned to the structure.
The Chief of Unit, in particular, will be responsible for:
- failure to define general and specific diagnostic and therapeutic criteria
- lack of accurate knowledge of the clinical situations of the patients
- lack of supervision and verification of the activity (autonomous and delegated) of the doctors assigned to the facility, especially as regards the internal collaboration between them (exchange of information etc.);
- failure to exercise the power to advocate the management of health treatment when the situation of complexity or danger to the patient requires it as well
- insufficient compilation of the medical record
Finally, he has the power to call upon the management of individual patients. The Chief of Internal Medicine can also act as Head of General Medicine Sub-unit.
Education and Experience profile
- A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
- A M.Med. in Internal Medicine
- Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of work experience in internal medicine in a general, regional referral or national referral hospital
- Has previous documented activities as team leaders in health sectors
- Has previous documented management experience in healthcare facilities
- Has scientific research titles in Internal Medicine or related sectors
