About the job Head of Psychiatry & Mental Health Support Unit
The Head of Psychiatry & Mental Health Support Unit is responsible for the mental health services within ISHU to ensure the current developmental, treatment, and psycho-social needs of children, youth, and families are met. The Head of Unit is responsible to ensure that the policies, standards and procedures related to mental health and addictions are maintained, applied and communicated to staff and are within the legal framework of Ministerial reporting requirements. They are responsible to provide direction and supervision to the clinical Staff and to ensure the provision of holistic services for children, youth, and families that is culturally appropriate and consistent with the philosophy and goals established by ISHU. The Head of Unit will be responsible to ensure the implementation of integrated service delivery from the point of intake to discharge for all patients receiving services, both as outpatient and as inpatient.
Education and Experience profile:
- A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
- A M.Med. in Psychiatry or its equivalent
- Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
- Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in psychiatry or its equivalent in a general, regional referral or national referral hospital
- Has previous documented activities as team leaders in health sectors
