Senior Consultant of Gastroenterology & Endoscopy

The Senior Consultant will be mainly involved in the care of the patients within the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Sub-Unit, but they will also be called to contribute to the General Medicine ward guard shifts and take part to the work shifts in the OPD Clinics belonging to the Internal Medicine Unit. The Consultant autonomously performs endoscopic procedures and prescribes diagnostic test and therapies; he/she reports daily to the Head of Unit about the most recent or serious cases in the sub-unit/ward. The Senior Consultant of Gastroenterology will attend periodic meetings with the Specialists of Internal Medicine Unit, surgeons and anesthetists to evaluate which procedures perform for the different patients belonging to the Unit.

The Senior Consultant of Endoscopy & Gastroenterology will have outstanding clinical and teaching skills. Finally, he/she will apply all the procedure to minimize the risk of infections in accordance with Infection Prevention and Control Service and Quality & Safety Department.

Education and Experience profile:

• A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
• A M.Med./PhD in Gastroenterology (or its equivalent) and a fellowship in Endoscopy
• Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
• Minimum of nine (9) years of working experience in Gastroenterology (or equivalent) 
• Has scientific research titles in Gastroenterology or related sectors
