About the job Head of Anatomo-Pathology Unit

The Head of Anatomical Pathology Unit oversees all clinical and forensic pathology services within the hospital, including autopsies, biopsies, histopathology, cytology, and forensic analyses. This role requires expert clinical leadership, operational management, and strategic vision to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable diagnostic and forensic services. The Head of Unit leads a multidisciplinary team, manages advanced laboratory technologies, and implements rigorous quality and safety standards. In addition, they are responsible for the forensic aspects of the unit, collaborating with legal authorities on medico-legal cases and maintaining chain-of-custody protocols to ensure evidence integrity.

The Head of Unit plays a vital role in policy development, regulatory compliance, and staff training to enhance the quality of care and forensic accuracy, supporting both clinical diagnostics and forensic investigations with a commitment to excellence.


Education and Experience profile:

  • A M.Med. in Forensic Pathology or Pathology (or equivalent)
  • Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in Forensic Pathology or Pathology or equivalent
  • Has previous documented activities as team leaders in health sectors
  • Has scientific research titles in Pathology or related area (preferred)
