About the job Consultant of Interventional Radiology

The Consultant of Interventional Radiology will autonomously perform the main procedures of interventional radiology and should be able to read and interpret all the main radiology investigations provided by ISHU such as conventional radiology, CT, MRI and ultrasound examination. The Consultant will work closely with other medical specialists, especially surgeons and emergentist, as part of a team caring for complex patients. They are required to supervise the education of junior roles, so they will be involved with teaching and training Medical Officers and should help with both their professional and personal development. They are also responsible for the assessment and appraisal of trainees under their supervision and must keep the Head of the Unit aware of problems that may arise.

Education and Experience profile:

  • A MBChB. or its equivalent from a recognized University or institution.
  • A Master of Medicine (M.Med) degree in Radiology or its equivalent
  • Additional training and certification in Radiology either as Fellow of Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) or American Board of Radiology (ABR) will be an asset.
  • Additional training and certification in interventional procedures including angiography, angioplasty/stent, chemoembolization, embolization, thrombolysis, biopsy, RF ablation, cryoablation, and IVC filter will be an asset. Proven and tracked experience may be considered in absence of certifications.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in interventional radiology procedures.
  • Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
