About the job Consultant of Allergology

The Consultant of Allergology will be mainly involved in the care of the patients within the Allergology Clinic, but they will also be called to give specialistic consultation for inpatients in the wards and in Day case area. In addition to clinical allergy services, the Clinic also provides a primary immunodeficiency service. The candidate shall provide diagnosis and management of a wide range of allergic disorders, including Hay fever, perennial rhiniti (allergic or non-allergic), urticaria and angioedema, anaphylaxis, food allergy (all types including peanut and nut allergy), drug allergy, including allergy to antibiotics, NSAIDs and local anaesthetics and suspected anaphylaxis during anaesthesia, bee and wasp venom allergy, latex allergy and mastocytosis. The Consultant is expected to manage skin tests and specific IgE tests, immunotherapy clinic, and subcutaneous treatment, food challenge and drug testing/challenge. They report daily to the Director of Department about the most recent or serious cases of their competence. The Consultant will attend periodic meetings with specialists in internal medicine, dermatologists and other specialists. An interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the Department and ISHU. Finally, they will apply all the procedure to minimize the risk of infections in accordance with Infection Prevention and Control Service and Quality & Safety Department.

Education and Experience

  • A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  • A M.Med. in Allergology/ Immunology (or equivalent).
  • Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of work experience in Allergology/ Immunology.
  • Demonstrated professional experience of at least 3 (three) years in the Ugandan Healthcare System.
