About the job Senior Consultant of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
The Senior Consultant of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery will be mainly involved in the care of the patients admitted in the unit; they will be responsible for all the surgical activities, including OPD Ambulatories and all surgical screening and evaluating procedures for in- and out-patients. They will be responsible in the management for patient with a wide variety of conditions ranging from congenital upper limb deformities, benign and malignant skin and soft tissue lesions, traumatic and degenerative hand pathologies, soft tissue defects post trauma or tumour resections, chronic wounds and pressure sores. The Senior Consultant autonomously prescribes diagnostic test and therapies; they report daily to the Head of Unit about the most recent or serious cases in the sub-unit/ward. The Senior Consultant will attend periodic meetings with the Head of Unit and anesthetists to evaluate which procedures perform for the different patients.The Senior Consultant will have outstanding clinical and teaching skills. In addition, he/she will assist the Head of Unit to apply all the procedure to minimize the risk of infections in accordance with Infection Prevention and Control Service and Quality & Safety Department.
Education and Experience profile:
- A MB.Ch.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
- A M.Med./Fellowship in Maxillofacial or Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (or equivalent)
- Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
- Minimum of nine (9) years of work experience in a general, regional referral or national referral hospital in surgery department, of which at least 3 in Maxillofacial, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (or equivalent field)
