The Nurse Supervisor – Ward Manager of Labor & Delivery Room (L&D) is a key member of the hospital clinical management team whose primary role is to oversee and manage the nursing care provided in the Labor & Delivery Room. Has 24/7 responsibility for the clinical care of Mothers and newborn babies and operation of the unit, manages Enrolled Midwives, Assistant Nursing Officers Midwives, Nursing Officers Midwives. Plans, directs and coordinates Labor & Delivery Care for both mother and newborn baby. Sets and carries out policies, goals, and procedures for the department and evaluates the quality of the staff’s work. Develops reports and budgets for their Unit. Assures that the needs of the patients and doctors in Labor & Delivery Room and associated areas are met, resulting in excellent outcomes. Serves as acting Head Nurse as assigned. The incumbent will ensure transparency in all matters pertaining to facility.


Education and Experience profile:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in either Nursing, Midwifery or its equivalent from a recognized University/Institution
  • Possession of a Diploma in a specialized field will be of added advantage
  • Must be registered with Uganda Nurses & Midwives Council
  • Post Basic Diploma in Maternal Nursing preferred
  • Minimum eight (8) years as Registered Nurse in Obstetrics, or equivalent
  • At least two (2) years as Nursing Officer in L&D or PNW
