Job Summary:
As an AU Tax Accountant, you'll play a key role in preparing financial statements, ensuring tax compliance, and supporting our clients tax requirements. Working alongside an experienced team, you will manage essential tax tasks ranging from working papers to client queries while continuously building your technical expertise through training and hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Statement Preparation
- Review general ledger balances, reports, and transactions to ensure accuracy and correct tax application.
- Prepare and complete working papers in accordance with client and regulatory standards.
- Apply technical proficiency gained through assigned work, training, and current technical resources.
- Prepare adjustments to correct client tax allocations.
- Conduct year-end accruals review and ensure completeness of financial job notes.
- Update and finalize working papers to align with completed financial statements.
- Generate full sets of financial statements for Companies and Trusts using Xero/MYOB.
- Prepare Trust Distribution and Dividend Statements where applicable.
- Perform Div7A calculations and documentation when required.
- Raise queries and provide suggestions to improve client records and facilitate timely preparation.
Income Tax Return Preparation
- Prepare Income Tax Returns for Individuals, Partnerships, Companies, and Trusts in Xero Tax.
- Complete Tax Reconciliations and Tax Provisions accurately.
- Ensure tax deductions and offsets are claimed in line with regulatory standards.
- Verify all sections of tax returns are properly completed and error-free.
ATO Compliance
- Prepare and lodge monthly, quarterly, or annual Activity Statements (IAS/BAS).
Process & Workflow Management
- Complete tax compliance checklists provided by the onshore team.
- Manage workflow in Karbon and ensure jobs are delivered before client deadlines.
- Record daily timesheets in client-specified applications.
Ad Hoc Tasks
- Undertake additional assignments as required by the Team Manager or Service Delivery Manager.
Key Result Areas & Performance Indicators
- Productivity and efficiency aligned with client-set expectations.
- Jobs completed within budgeted hours.
- High quality and accuracy of working papers, financial statements, and tax returns.
- Timely submission of queries and deliverables.
- Consistent punctuality and attendance.
- Proactive resolution of issues and risks.
Training & Development
Training will be provided in:
- Financial statement and tax return preparation.
- Australian tax concepts: GST, Division 7A, CGT, SGC, payroll tax, stamp duty, franking accounts, family trust elections, TBAR, STP, and more.
- Use of software including:
- Xero Accounting & Practice Manager
- MYOB
- BGL/CAS 360
- Karbon
- Ignition
- Microsoft Office Suite
- OneDrive
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CA qualification desirable but not required).
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with Xero, MYOB, Karbon, or similar accounting tools.
- Strong attention to detail with commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines within budget hours.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Quality & Efficiency Standards
- Work in line with Makari and Cos quality guidelines.
- Deliver accurate and complete outputs with minimal supervision.
- Ensure all tasks are completed efficiently within the agreed timeframe.
