Job Title: Camp Staff USA Counselor / Support Staff

Location: Various summer camps across the United States

Program Duration: Seasonal (typically 812 weeks during summer)

About the Camp Staff USA Program: Camp Staff USA provides international participants with a unique chance to work in American summer camps, where they support youth development and gain valuable cultural exchange experiences. This program is ideal for those who are passionate about working with children, eager to learn new skills, and excited to experience American camp culture. Participants can work as counselors, activity leaders, or support staff, helping campers build confidence, make friends, and have memorable summers.

Position Summary: We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic individuals to join our Camp Staff USA team as Camp Counselors or Support Staff. In this role, you will lead activities, oversee campers well-being, and create a safe, positive, and engaging camp environment. Youll have a direct impact on campers experiences while developing leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

For Camp Counselors:

  • Activity Leadership: Plan, lead, and participate in various activities, including sports, arts and crafts, swimming, hiking, and outdoor education.
  • Camper Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times, building positive relationships and fostering a supportive environment.
  • Team Building: Facilitate group activities and help campers develop confidence, teamwork, and respect.
  • Guidance and Mentorship: Serve as a role model, offering guidance, encouragement, and support to campers.

For Support Staff (kitchen, maintenance, administrative roles):

  • Operational Support: Assist in the daily operations of the camp, including meal preparation, cleaning, and administrative tasks.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, organized environment that contributes to the health and safety of all campers and staff.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with camp leadership and other staff to ensure smooth operations and a positive camp experience.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience in childcare, teaching, coaching, or similar roles is an asset but not required.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a love for working with children and teens.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to participate in physical activities and be outdoors for extended periods.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficient in English to effectively communicate with campers and staff.
  • Adaptability: Able to work in a fast-paced, communal setting and adapt to the camp environment.

Eligibility Requirements for the J1 Camp Counselor or Support Staff Visa:

  3. Cultural Exchange Interest: Must show genuine interest in cultural exchange and willingness to engage fully in the camp experience.
  4. Experience with Youth: Prior experience working with children, whether formal or informal, is preferred for counselors.
