Acting Head: Finance (Temporary Contract – 6 Months)

Introduction

Our client, a respected public sector organisation based in Pretoria, is seeking to appoint an experienced Acting Head: Finance on a temporary basis for approximately 6 months.

This opportunity is suited to a highly experienced and immediately available Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) with strong executive-level financial leadership experience and the ability to provide strategic and operational financial oversight in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Providing strategic leadership and oversight of the full finance function.

Leading financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities.

Ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations, governance standards, and internal controls.

Managing cash flow, financial risk, and organisational financial sustainability.

Overseeing audit preparation and stakeholder engagement.

Supporting executive decision-making through strategic financial insights and analysis.

Leading and mentoring finance teams to ensure operational excellence.

Minimum Requirements

Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA(SA))– non-negotiable.

Relevant postgraduate qualification will be advantageous.

Extensive senior/executive finance leadership experience.

Proven experience in:

Financial strategy and planning

Budget management

Risk and compliance

Audit management

Stakeholder management

Previous experience within public sector / SOE / government entities will be highly advantageous.

Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities.

Must be immediately available or available at short notice.
