About the Role
The Company is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Engineering Manager to join its dynamic team based in Johannesburg.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales growth, strengthening client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and providing technical expertise across a range of engineering products and services. This role combines technical knowledge with business development and requires a proactive individual who can engage with customers, negotiate contracts, and deliver tailored engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Business Development
- Build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the mining and related industries.
- Promote and sell the Company's engineering products and technical solutions.
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, and contracts with customers.
- Generate enquiries and convert opportunities into profitable sales.
- Conduct regular client visits, presentations, and technical discussions.
- Understand customer operational and logistical requirements to provide effective solutions.
- Prepare accurate quotations, proposals, and technical submissions.
- Follow up on quotations and ensure effective communication between customers and internal teams.
- Resolve customer concerns and coordinate solutions with internal stakeholders.
Product Development and Market Growth
- Collaborate with technical teams and management to identify and source new engineering products and technologies.
- Research market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth.
- Promote innovative products and technologies that provide competitive advantages to customers.
Reporting and Performance Management
- Prepare monthly sales and pipeline reports.
- Track business development activities and sales performance.
- Report on product growth initiatives and profitability improvements.
- Analyse unsuccessful quotations and recommend improvement strategies.
- Conduct quarterly business reviews with key clients.
Collaboration
- Work closely with technical, logistics, finance, marketing, and sales teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Support internal initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiencies and customer satisfaction.
Training and Development
- Participate in internal training programmes.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and technical training sessions where required.
- Continuously develop product knowledge and industry expertise.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant Engineering qualification.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar technical sales or engineering management role.
- Solid understanding of sales processes and business development.
- Knowledge and understanding of imports and exports is essential.
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and ability to work under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Willingness to travel extensively (50% or more).
Preferred Industry Experience
Experience within engineering products and industrial solutions, including but not limited to:
- Steel products
- Conveyor belts
- Pumps
- Pulleys
- Fasteners (nuts and bolts)
- Mining consumables
- Industrial equipment and related engineering solutions
