Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Plater to join our team at a state-of-the-art glass recycling plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural components to support the recycling processes, ensuring the plant's efficiency and safety. You will work with a variety of metals, including carbon and stainless steel, and ensure that all work is in line with project specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fabrication & Assembly: Accurately measure, cut, shape, and assemble metal components (primarily steel) for structural and mechanical systems within the plant.
- Structural Work: Install platforms, walkways, chutes, and frames that support the glass recycling machinery and conveyor systems.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints to fabricate and install components to exact specifications.
- Welding & Cutting: Operate welding equipment (MMA) and cutting tools to join metal parts or remove excess material.
- Safety Standards: Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, performing risk assessments, and using personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Regularly inspect fabricated structures for signs of wear and tear, and perform maintenance as needed to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Collaboration: Work closely with welders, engineers, and plant operators to complete projects on time and to required standards.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Plater in a heavy industrial or recycling environment, ideally within a glass or waste management facility.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in various welding techniques (MMA) and use of fabrication tools (grinders, plasma cutters, etc.).
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work at height and in confined spaces when necessary.
- Full UK driving license is preferred.
Qualifications:
- City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 in Fabrication & Welding or similar.
- Previous experience working with carbon and stainless steel.
- Valid safety certifications (e.g., CSCS Card) are an advantage.
