Role Overview

We are seeking an analytical and technically skilled Database Engineer to design, develop, maintain, and optimize database solutions that support enterprise applications, reporting platforms, and business processes.

The selected candidate will work within an Agile development team alongside software developers, business analysts, product owners, architects, and other stakeholders. The role requires strong SQL Server expertise, sound database-design knowledge, and the ability to solve complex data and performance-related challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize relational database solutions.
• Support database systems used by enterprise applications, reporting platforms, and analytical solutions.
• Develop efficient and scalable database structures aligned with application and business requirements.
• Apply database-design principles, including normalization, indexing, relationships, and data integrity.
• Write, review, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and database scripts.
• Investigate and resolve database performance issues, system errors, and data-related incidents.
• Analyze execution plans and identify opportunities to improve query and database performance.
• Monitor database health, availability, reliability, and performance.
• Support the development and enhancement of existing and future database solutions.
• Ensure accurate, secure, and efficient data management across database environments.
• Collaborate with developers and architects to support application design and technical implementation.
• Work closely with business analysts and product owners to understand requirements and translate them into database solutions.
• Participate in technical discussions, solution reviews, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Support reporting, business intelligence, and data-warehouse-related requirements when required.
• Assist with data migration, transformation, validation, and integration activities.
• Maintain database documentation, technical specifications, data models, and operational procedures.
• Follow established database standards, development guidelines, security controls, and best practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing database processes, solutions, and development practices.
• Participate in Agile activities, including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and deliver agreed objectives.
• Manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining quality and meeting delivery deadlines.
• Handle sensitive information responsibly and comply with applicable data-protection and security requirements.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working with SQL, SQL Server, or other relational database-management systems.
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server and relational database concepts.
• Strong understanding of database-design principles, including normalization and indexing.
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting database systems.
• Good understanding of database development, performance optimization, and data-management best practices.
• Ability to write, troubleshoot, and optimize complex SQL queries.
• Experience working with stored procedures, functions, views, and database scripts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to investigate complex databases and resolve technical issues.
• Good understanding of data integrity, database security, access controls, and confidentiality.
• Experience with T-SQL will be an advantage.
• Experience in Business Intelligence or Data Warehousing will be an advantage.
• Experience working in an Agile software-development environment will be preferred.
• Exposure to healthcare, health technology, or social-care systems will be an advantage.
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Quality-focused, organized, proactive, and attentive to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a technical team.
• Willingness to learn, share knowledge, and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities effectively.
• The successful candidate must be willing to undergo a background verification process due to access to sensitive personal data.
