Role Overview 

We are seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join a growing UK accounting and taxation team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing UK accounting and tax assignments while supervising and supporting junior team members to ensure all deliverables meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and client deadlines. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with strong UK accounting knowledge, excellent review skills, and the ability to mentor team members while managing multiple client engagements. 

Key Responsibilities

• Review bookkeeping records to ensure transactions are complete, accurate, properly classified, and fully reconciled.
• Review VAT returns and supporting reconciliations before submission.
• Prepare statutory accounts in accordance with FRS 102 and FRS 105.
• Prepare Corporation Tax computations and CT600 returns.
• Prepare Self-Assessment tax returns and supporting calculations.
• Review monthly and quarterly management accounts, including variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Review statutory accounts and supporting working papers prepared by junior team members.
• Identify accounting errors, inconsistencies, omissions, and areas requiring further investigation.
• Provide technical guidance, constructive feedback, and on-the-job support to junior accounting staff.
• Ensure review points are communicated clearly, resolved promptly, and documented appropriately.
• Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to resolve accounting, tax, and compliance-related queries.
• Maintain complete and accurate working papers and supporting documentation.
• Monitor assigned work to ensure delivery within agreed deadlines and quality standards.
• Support the enhancement of internal accounting procedures, templates, controls, and processes.
• Assist management with operational improvements, workflow optimization, and technical accounting matters.

Candidate Profile

• Professional qualification in ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AAT, or an equivalent qualification.
• Part-qualified candidates with strong UK accounting experience may also be considered.
• Strong experience reviewing bookkeeping records and VAT returns.
• Practical experience preparing statutory accounts under FRS 102 and FRS 105.
• Hands-on experience preparing Corporation Tax computations and CT600 returns.
• Experience preparing Self-Assessment tax returns.
• Experience reviewing management accounts, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Strong experience reviewing work completed by junior accounting staff.
• Excellent understanding of UK accounting standards and tax compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical, supervisory, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify accounting discrepancies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience using Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, IRIS, TaxCalc, or similar accounting systems will be an advantage.
